New Monkees was a 1987 project that resulted in a television show and an album, much like the original Monkees (and put together by some of the names involved in the original project). The series lasted for one season, but the project resulted in a pretty tasty pop record full of hook-laden tunes. Marty Ross (vocals and bass) joins Pods & Sods for a track by track look at the album filled with stories – including the record company’s issues with the lyrics to the song “Affection” and the story of the day that the original and new Monkees crossed paths in the recording studio – and he brought his guitar!
Are you lonely? Slide over here with Pods & Sods and give them a moment as they are joined by Kisstory Science Theatre’s Lee Conrad to discuss an album that had a huge impact on pop music – INXS’s 1987 landmark LP Kick.
Special guest Brian Jacobs schools Eric and Craig on Springsteen’s most decidedly eighties-ridden work, and a good amount of time is spent musing about Roland Gift.
